Allison Miller is passionate about applying creativity, inspiration, and joy to every facet of our lives, including our work lives. As a top-performing, highly visible executive in technology and cybersecurity, Allison’s learned through experience how stressful the work-lives of “first responders” and operational teams can be; and those pressures only increase as we rise into leadership, because we’re not just responsible for the tech we’re building, or processes we’re managing - we’re responsible for growing and cultivating teams, too.
As Allison transitioned into management and kept taking larger roles, her excitement for the work surged, but so did her stress levels, and she could see the same thing happening to peers and teammates. Hoping to find tools to bring work-life back to a sustainable equilibrium, Allison turned to mindfulness techniques for stress management, eventually becoming a yoga instructor with an advanced specialization in therapeutic yoga (emphasizing stress management and mental health). Encouraging resilience is a core element of Allison’s approach to leadership and coaching, and has supported her progress both in personal and career development.
Allison’s own journey into the C-suite and boardroom benefited from support of closely connected industry peers, helpful managers and mentors, and a variety of leadership development programs. However the independent and helpful “mirror” provided by effective executive coaches has been the most useful support to keep Allison’s career journey grounded in purpose and growing towards potential.
At the same time, Allison found herself being sought-out for career mentoring and advising from peers and protégés alike, and found herself really enjoying the process of reflecting, envisioning, and building systems and strategies to transform peoples’ ideas and insights into new realities. It’s with this idea of helping others see themselves and their possibilities differently, creatively, and more clearly, that lookingglass leadership was born.
